Daily Recommitment Prayer

Dear brother or sister in the Lord,

I want to share something with you that has blessed me more than almost anything else in my Christian life of sixteen years. My prayer is that it will be a great blessing to yours as well.

Have you ever felt discouraged in your life with God and wondered why isn't your Christian life filled with more joy, more faith, more strength? I have. Surely those who have Christ in their lives should be overflowing with a depth of character and strength unknown to those without Christ. For Jesus Christ's life on the earth exuded a powerful authority, an unshakable faith, and an unwavering love for the Father and for us He came to save. But many times in my Christian life, I have been disappointed because I did not have that kind of strength. Yet I believe that if Christ is in me, I am a new creation. And if I am not experiencing the life of Christ, then I must be doing something wrong.

I felt discouraged like this recently. And then the Lord spoke to me. He reminded me of the incomparably great power for us who believe and that I must do all I can to seek Him for that strength. So I began to search the Scriptures for examples of prayers that I can use to pray aloud and seek the Lord for His power and life. The result is the following Daily Recommitment Prayer taken from the Scriptures. It takes about 20 minutes to pray through aloud. Let me tell you that it has done wonders for my life in Christ. Like most good things this takes time to do but if you are willing to invest your time and heart, I'm sure that you will feel blessed after praying.

Heavenly Father, hallowed be Your name.

Praise be to the God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed me in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. You are worthy, our Lord and God to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being. O Lamb of God, You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on the earth. Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

May the kingdom of the world become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ. He will reign for ever and ever. I give thanks to You, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was. Take up Your great power and begin to reign.

Not my will but Yours be done. May my attitude be the same as that of Christ, who being in very nature God, made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant. Today I deny myself, take up my cross, and follow Christ. May my life be like a kernel of wheat that falls to the ground and dies yet produces many seeds. Let me hate my life in this world to keep it for eternal life. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Father, glorify Your name!

Give us today our daily bread.

Heavenly Father, You know that I need food, drink, clothing, shelter, money, companionship and love. I choose not to worry about these things, but with thanksgiving I commit them to Your care. I choose to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus regarding my daily needs. Teach me the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through You who gives me strength.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope. O Father in heaven, You have compassion on Your children who fear You. You know that I was formed from dust and that my days are like grass. For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with all who love Him and obey His commands, I have sinned and done wrong. I have been wicked and have rebelled; I have turned away from Your commands and laws. Lord, You are righteous, but I am covered with shame because I have sinned against You. O Lord my God, You are merciful and forgiving, even though I have rebelled against You.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak and justified when You judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely You desire truth in the inner parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will turn back to You. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

I consider all the offenses I have committed and I turn away from them. Lord, I confess my sins to You. Forgive me and purify me from all unrighteousness.

[Repent of any specific sins.]

Hear from heaven and forgive my sins. Forgive my hidden faults. Forgive all my sins of rebellion. Forgive my wickedness and remember my sins no more, not because I am righteous, but because of Your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! Transform me into Your image that I may bear Your name.

Lord, You search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve. Reveal to me now if I have any grievances against anyone, so that I may forgive them.

[Forgive any specific people.]

If I hold anything against anyone, I forgive him now from my heart. I forgive those who sin against me. Let me not keep count of insults or snubs. Help me overlook criticisms, judgments against me or hurts. Give me grace to forgive betrayals, slander or broken confidences. Let love cover over careless comments, neglect, broken promises and harsh words. I release and forgive them in Jesus’ name. Help me not to keep count of how many times I forgive someone. Instead may I remember with gratitude the countless times You have forgiven me.

Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for You are the one I praise.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Keep Your servant from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. Wash evil from my heart and help me not to harbor wicked thoughts. Lord, I return to You with all my heart. Let me no longer follow the stubbornness of my evil heart. Cure me of backsliding. I have a reputation for being alive, but have been sometimes dead. I acknowledge my guilt. Forgive me for my unfaithfulness. I am wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. It is time for me to wake up. Break up the unplowed ground of my heart and help me not to sow among thorns. I repent of my idols and circumcise my heart to the Lord. Let me buy gold from You refined in the fire so that I can become rich. Sell me white clothes to wear to cover my shameful nakedness. Give me salve for my eyes so I can see. Lord, I return to You, my first love, and earnestly repent of my wickedness and idolatry. Come abide in me, Lord Jesus. Welcome. Thank You for saving me. I open the door of my heart to You, Lord. Come in.

If the Son sets me free, I will be free indeed. Strengthen me that my deeds may be found complete in the sight of God. Holy Spirit, remind me of what I have received and heard that I may obey it. Help me not to soil the new clothes You have given me or deny Your name. Coach me to hold to Your teaching so that I will know the truth, and the truth may set me free. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Help me to walk in the light as You are in the light. Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. Train me to be self-controlled and alert. The enemy prowls around wanting to devour me. Give me strength to resist the devil, standing firm in the faith. Make me strong, firm and steadfast. I submit myself to You, Lord. I draw near to the Lord; O Lord, draw near to me. Give me the strength to be faithful, even to the point of death that I may receive the crown of life. Keep me from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You. May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in You. Lord Jesus, pray for me that I may not fall today. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with my spirit.

I rededicate my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Root and Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. You are the First and the Last, the Living One. You were dead, but You are alive for ever and ever. You hold the keys of death and Hades. I am thirsty! Let me drink now of the free gift of the water of life. O Lord, Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, I am thirsty. Give me a drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. Lord Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in You will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in You will never die.

Hallelujah! For the Lord God Almighty reigns. I will rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! Let me make myself ready for the wedding of the Lamb. May fine linen, bright and clean, be given me to wear. Let me wash my robes in the blood of the Lamb to make them white that I may have the right to the tree of life and go through the gates into the Holy City, the new Jerusalem.

You are the Lord, the God of all mankind. You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You. Teach me to live by the Spirit, not to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Let the fruit of the Spirit be found in me: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. May my love abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that I may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

O God, the glorious Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, may You give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I may know You better. May the eyes of my heart be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which You have called me, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints, and Your incomparably great power for us who believe.

Lord Jesus, You are the light of the world. Whoever follows You will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Turn my darkness into light before me and make the rough places smooth. I put my trust in the Lord, not in idols. May Your Word be a lamp to my feet. Put Your law in my mind and write it on my heart.

I receive Your love, O Lord. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for forgiving and renewing me. Fill me up, O God, with Your love that I may not look to the things of the world to fill me up. God is love; and love comes from God. You expressed Your love to us by sending Your one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. May love be made complete in me so that in this world I will be like Christ. Teach me to love my brother. May Your perfect love drive all fear from me.

I run to the shelter of the Most High so that I may rest under the shadow of the Almighty. Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Save me from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. Cover me with Your feathers. Under Your wings I find refuge. Your faithfulness is my shield and rampart. Therefore I will not fear.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. In my anguish I cried to the Lord and he answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They surrounded me on every side but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things! Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. May I be like a tree planted by water that sends its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes, whose leaves are always green and never fails to bear fruit.

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Great and marvelous are Your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are Your ways, King of the ages. Who will not fear You, O Lord, and bring glory to Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.

Lord Jesus, when you were lifted up from the earth, You drew all men to Yourself. Draw my family to You and give them saving faith and godly sorrow. Open their eyes so they can see. Soften their hearts so they can understand. Let them turn to You that You may heal them.

O great and powerful God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, great are Your purposes and mighty are Your deeds.

Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. Just and true are His judgments. In agreement with all the angels and the elders and living creatures around the throne of God, I say: Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen! Hallelujah!
