Hobbies and S.H.A.P.E.
Every person is significant and valuable. Each one has a unique set of talents and passions. Ascribe allows you to catalog each person’s various interests and find people with similar traits. There are two main methods to do this. The first is the hobby field. Secondly, the S.H.A.P.E. sub-module allows you to enter a lot more detailed information for each person.
The "Hobbies" field in every person's record is a very flexible way to "tag" a person's record with keywords. You don't have to limit this to just hobbies.
To add hobbies to a person’s profile, type in hobbies (one per line) in the left side box, or just click pre-existing hobbies from other people in the database listed on the right side box.
When viewing a person’s record, under the Miscellaneous section, any hobbies are listed. Each hobby is clickable. If you click one, Ascribe will perform a search of all people in the database who have that same hobby.
As with any field or feature within Ascribe, you can use the Language module to change any kind of text within the system. So with the hobbies field, you could change that to "Member Keywords" perhaps. Later you could do a search for members with matching keywords.
Each person also has a S.H.A.P.E. section in their member record. Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church put together an easy-to-remember acronym called S.H.A.P.E. which stands for:
- Spiritual Gifts
The first four have keyword type data entry fields exactly like the one for Hobbies. All of these are searchable. It also has five free entry text fields under "Experiences" which are also searchable.
While Ascribe was initially developed for churches, keep in mind that Ascribe’s Language module allows you to adapt the wording of this and any other feature to the specific needs of your organization.
